"A Quest for the Impossible"

I wandered into a forest
and searched for spirits
of all kinds.
I wanted to make an exchange
with a witch
or a fairy
for happiness.

But the witch I found ignored my pleas
and said "happiness is not something I can guarantee",
even though I offered my years
on a plate
for her to swallow and eat.

I found a much kinder fairy
with mischief in his eyes
who kissed me and said,
"I'll take your life, but happiness is still
without guarantee
from me."

--; February 1st, 2014.

This poem was inspired by the idea that happiness isn't something you can really buy in this world. Sometimes, if you are not happy...it simply means that you aren't happy, and that's it. You just have to try your best to get through the sadness and hope for a bright sky the next day--and hope that the bright sky will be enough to make you smile with all your heart.
However, even if it doesn't, it's okay. You should be allowed to take your time. You don't owe it to anyone to be okay, so you should never feel pressured to have to be okay. You just need to be yourself--whether yourself is represented by a few tears or a lot of laughter in that moment.
Don't rush it. Don't force it. You have the whole rest of your life ahead of you.
